Micah Richards Quits Drinking to Shed Weight After Back Injury

Former Manchester City defender and current pundit Micah Richards has announced he has stopped drinking alcohol to help lose weight after experiencing a significant back injury and gaining weight.

Richards admitted that he had developed a habit of drinking without engaging in enough exercise to offset the calories, which contributed to his weight gain. During a light-hearted conversation with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker on The Rest is Football podcast, he shared his recent decision to quit alcohol.

He explained that his back injury, which required an epidural injection, had affected his ability to work out regularly. Since stopping drinking, Richards feels more energetic and healthier, noting a positive change in his overall well-being.

Richards, known for his muscular physique during his playing days and dedication to fitness, previously showcased his athletic build in promotional campaigns and TV appearances. He is also a keen amateur boxer, with some believing he could pursue fights in the Misfits boxing league in the future.

Despite his injury currently limiting his physical activity, Richards remains optimistic about his fitness prospects and is focused on improving his health by quitting alcohol. His decision underscores a commitment to a healthier lifestyle following health setbacks.
