Meghan Markle Faces Backlash for Attending Balenciaga Show Amid Scandal
Meghan Markle Faces Criticism for Attending Controversial Brand’s Fashion Show
Fans have criticized Meghan Markle for gracing a Balenciaga fashion event amid ongoing controversy surrounding the brand. Previously, the fashion house was called out for a disturbing campaign involving children and bondage-themed teddy bears, leading to widespread backlash.
On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex made her debut at Paris Fashion Week, dressed in an elegant, all-white ensemble featuring a long-sleeved button-down tunic with a flowing cape and matching trousers. Her appearance was meant to support Pierpaolo Piccioli, who took over as Creative Director earlier this year.

While many praised her for her sophisticated look, critics questioned her choice to support a brand embroiled in scandal. Comments on social media accused Markle of hypocrisy, pointing out her advocacy for children’s interests contrasted with her presence at a show linked to a campaign featuring children inappropriately used with bondage imagery.
“The ‘duchess’ of hypocrisy: a lady who claims to defend the interests of children, going to a fashion show that ran a disgusting campaign with children,”
Others challenged her support, with one remarking, “How could any mother support that brand?” and another stating, “Miss All About the Children showing up at a Balenciaga show. How gross 🤢.”
Critics also referenced Balenciaga’s historical controversies, including a 2022 lawsuit over their disturbing campaigns, which involved imagery of children with fetish accessories. Although the brand initially filed a $25 million lawsuit against the campaign producers, they later dropped it amid the backlash.
Despite the controversy, some celebrities, like Kim Kardashian, continued to support Balenciaga, resuming their association with the brand after the incidents.
The backlash highlights ongoing scrutiny of public figures who attend events associated with brands embroiled in scandal. Markle’s representatives have yet to comment on her attendance.
