The trial of Sarah Hartsfield, a woman accused of intentionally causing her fifth husband’s death, has moved to the jury selection phase. The 50-year-old Texas resident faces charges related to her husband Joseph Hartsfield’s death in January 2023.
Prosecutors allege that Hartsfield used her knowledge as an Army veteran to manipulate her husband’s diabetes by injecting him with harmful levels of insulin and waiting hours before calling emergency services. Joseph was hospitalized and died days later from complications linked to insulin poisoning. Authorities found multiple insulin pens near his bedside and noted inconsistencies in her statements during investigations.
Hartsfield is currently detained at Chambers County Jail under a bond of $2 million. The case suggests she may have concealed a homicide by exploiting her husband’s medical condition, which she denies, claiming his death was a tragic medical complication.
