Newcastle £55m Signing Yoane Wissa Faces Setback in Return from Knee Injury

Newcastle’s Transfer Setback as Wissa Faces Extended Injury Absence

Newcastle United’s recent signing, Yoane Wissa, will miss at least five more matches after experiencing a setback in his recovery from a knee injury. The £55 million forward, who joined from Brentford, was anticipated to make his debut after the international break at Brighton but has now been delayed.

After consulting a specialist, manager Eddie Howe confirmed that Wissa would need approximately two more weeks before he’s fit to play, pushing his likely return to the match against West Ham on November 2. Wissa sustained his injury during his first training session with Newcastle, just a week after transferring from Brentford, without having played a competitive game for his new club.

Howe explained, “Yoane had a follow-up with a specialist this week, and it appears it will take around eight weeks instead of six to recover. There’s no recurrence or serious issue, just a slightly longer healing process.” His absence has allowed fellow new signing Nick Woltemade to lead the attack, and the German striker has responded well with three goals in four appearances. Woltemade is expected to start again in Sunday’s home game against Nottingham Forest.

There is regret inside the club that Wissa was never injured during four seasons at Brentford

The club regrets that Wissa remained injury-free during his time at Brentford over four seasons.

Initially, Wissa was expected to shoulder much of Newcastle’s attacking responsibilities early in the season due to his Premier League experience. In positive news, midfielder Jacob Ramsey has recovered from an ankle injury and will be available for selection this weekend. Ramsey had been expected to be out until mid-month following his injury at Leeds in August.
