Aston Villa Fans Arrested After Brawl and Glass Throwing in Rotterdam Pub Before Europa League Match

Aston Villa Fans Involved in Clash in Rotterdam: Five Arrested Before Europa League Match

Aston Villa’s first European away match of the season in Rotterdam was disrupted by violence involving supporters. The team is in the Dutch city ahead of their Europa League game against Feyenoord, with approximately 3,000 Villa fans traveling for the match.

On Wednesday, tensions escalated outside an Irish pub on Rodezland, leading to a fight between rival fans. Dutch reports confirmed that five individuals, all Dutch nationals, were arrested in connection with the altercation.

Footage circulating on social media shows groups dressed in black storming an area and smashing glasses amid the chaos. Additionally, a video shared by a fan describes a tense situation in a bar, where supporters arrived en masse before police intervened to disperse them.

Reports from local outlets also mention fireworks being set off in front of the hotel where Aston Villa players are staying, aimed at disturbing their sleep. Authorities will bolster police presence in Rotterdam’s Oude Haven (Old Port) area to ensure safety during the match.

Rotterdam holds special significance for Villa fans, as the club famously won the European Cup there in 1982. The team seeks to build on their recent 1-0 victory over Bologna in the Europa League but faces a tough challenge against Feyenoord.

Manager Unai Emery acknowledged the difficulties of playing away, especially in a competitive environment like Feyenoord’s. He emphasized the importance of focus, respect for the opponents, and playing with confidence to secure a positive result.
