Man Sentenced for Child Sex Abuse and Possession of Abuse Material

A former elementary school principal has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after admitting to transporting a minor with the intent to sexually abuse a child under 12, as well as possessing and distributing child exploitation content. The charges stemmed from an incident in October 2022 when he planned to facilitate abuse across state lines between North Dakota and South Dakota.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the individual, who had significant access to children during his tenure at Independence Elementary School in Fargo, kept a cache of illicit images and videos, including 224 images and 378 videos. Among these was a photo of a nude child taken by him personally.

Judge Peter Welte expressed strong disapproval of George’s actions, stating that a life sentence would be more appropriate, although the plea deal limited his sentence to 40 years. During his sentencing, one of the young victims and his family testified, with the boy sharing that he stayed silent out of fear, believing that George might harm him or his loved ones. He also told the court, “I lost my childhood and innocence because of David’s abuse.”

The victim’s mother delivered an emotional speech, emphasizing that no court sentence could compare to the lifelong impact his actions had on her children. She expressed her pain and frustration, stating, “Even though the court gives you a sentence, it is nothing compared to the life sentence you gave to my kids.”

Throughout the case, George attempted to deflect blame onto others, including neighbors and his own children. When sentenced, he showed remorse, crying and admitting that he had hurt those he loved most. However, his emotional display was met with skepticism from the victim’s family, who remained resolute in their condemnation.

At the time of his release, George will be in his late 70s, having served the lengthy prison term for his heinous crimes.
