Idah on Celtic: Facing Hate & Tough Moments in Football
Idah on Celtic: “It can be tough, you get a lot of hate. Sometimes a poor game feels like torture”
Adam Idah has opened up about the challenges he faced during his time at Celtic, describing the experience of dealing with criticism and hostility. The 24-year-old Irish striker recently transferred from Glasgow-based Celtic to Swansea in the Championship, after 18 months with the Scottish giants, initially on loan.
During his stint at Celtic, Idah accumulated medals including two league titles and a Scottish Cup. However, he admitted that despite scoring the decisive late goal against Rangers to secure the Scottish Cup, he struggled to win over some tough critics.
Reflecting on his time, Idah commented: “Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and it’s a proud moment to have played there. I have many great memories and nothing negative to say about the club. Scoring around 20 goals last season, often coming off the bench, doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves. But now, it’s time for a fresh start.”
He revealed that he was preparing for the new season’s Old Firm derby when Swansea expressed interest. Brendan Rodgers, Celtic’s manager, kept him out of the squad for a recent match at Ibrox. Idah also had international commitments, but was able to secure his transfer to Swansea before joining Ireland for qualifiers against Hungary and Armenia.
Idah shared: “It was a crazy week; I found out about the move just before the game. It’s a new beginning, and I’ve spoken with the staff and players at Swansea. I initially didn’t want to leave Celtic; I wanted to fight for my spot. But Swansea has a great project, and I’m excited to bring what I can to the team. It feels like the right decision.”
