82-Year-Old Serie A Legend Returns to the Club: The Veteran Athlete’s Secret to Longevity
Italian Football Legend Returns to the Field at 82
A renowned figure from Serie A is set to make an astonishing comeback to professional football at age 82. Goalkeeper Lamberto Boranga, who initially retired in 1983, will rejoin a seventh-tier team this October, demonstrating his remarkable athleticism and longevity.
Beyond his football career, Boranga is also a licensed cardiologist and has explored various disciplines throughout his life. He maintains an intense training schedule, including competing in Masters Athletics, and plans to participate in the upcoming European Masters Athletics Championships in Portugal next month.
Despite hanging up his boots decades ago, Boranga remains fit and active. He attributes his enduring health to a disciplined lifestyle—regular exercise and a nutritious diet. His training involves multiple athletic disciplines such as long jump, triple jump, and pole vault, guided by former Inter Milan goalkeeping coach Marco Bonaiuti.
He stated, “In October, I will take part in the European Masters Championships in Madeira. I always train in various disciplines.” Although he doesn’t anticipate playing the full 90 minutes, his goal is to show that age is just a number.
Throughout his athletic career, Boranga set numerous records, including a 5.47-metre jump that earned him the world record for athletes over 65 and a 10.75-metre triple jump record for his age group before turning 70. He has amassed a total of 10 medals across European and World Masters Events, with five golds.
His secret? A simple yet effective routine: a balanced diet with minimal meat and alcohol, abstaining from smoking, combined with regular physical activity and even sex. He enjoys a hearty breakfast, energy bars at lunch, and light dinners, followed by post-meal walks ensuring his longevity and fitness.
His incredible story continues to inspire, proving that with determination and discipline, age truly is just a number.
