Liverpool Legend Sacked After Relegation—Club Quickly Hires His Replacement!
Former Liverpool Forward Dirk Kuyt Dismissed from Belgian Club After Relegation
Dirk Kuyt, a former Liverpool star, has been relieved of his duties as manager of the Belgian club Beerschot following their relegation from the top division. Appointed in December 2023, Kuyt successfully led the team to promotion in his first season but faced challenges in the Belgian Pro League, managing only five wins in 36 matches, which resulted in their relegation to the second tier.
The club expressed gratitude for Kuyt’s dedication and positive influence, noting that his enthusiasm was an inspiration to the squad. Despite his popularity among supporters, Beerschot have already appointed a new head coach, who will be introduced shortly.
Previously, Kuyt criticized the club’s inadequate facilities, describing the lack of quality training grounds as frustrating. Last month, he revealed that the team was forced to train in gyms and use video footage due to the absence of proper fields, which he found unacceptable. He also indicated that he personally searched around Antwerp for suitable training spaces, criticizing the club’s infrastructure and expressing his frustration with the supporting conditions.
Throughout his coaching career, Kuyt has managed youth teams at Feyenoord and briefly led ADO Den Haag before his stint at Beerschot. As a player, he is renowned for his time at Liverpool, where he scored 71 goals in 285 appearances and played a key role in the 2011-12 League Cup victory, netting in the final against Cardiff City. After leaving Liverpool in 2012, Kuyt played for Fenerbahçe and later returned to Feyenoord, retiring in 2017. On the international stage, he earned 104 caps for the Netherlands, scoring 24 goals.
