Sheinelle Jones Returns to the “Today” Show After Loss of Husband

Sheinelle Jones made her return to the “Today” show this Friday, more than four months after the passing of her husband, Uche Ojeh, who died following a brave fight against brain cancer.

During a pre-recorded interview with Savannah Guthrie, Sheinelle opened up about the profound grief she has faced, describing her loss as “horrible” and expressing that her heart feels “shattered into a million pieces.” She tearfully shared, “It sucks. It’s a day-to-day struggle. I am proud of how I’ve managed so far, and I’m proud of my kids’ resilience.”

Jones, who previously took an extended leave while her family privately coped with her husband’s illness, was absent from the broadcast after her co-workers announced that Uche Ojeh was diagnosed with and succumbed to glioblastoma in May.

Despite the ongoing pain, she emphasized her determination to find happiness, saying, “I’m fighting for my joy and would do our love story all over again, knowing how it ends.” She admitted, “There are days I just want to stay in bed, but I can’t because I have three young children watching me.”

After her heartfelt interview, she rejoined her colleagues on set, describing them as her “oxygen” and sharing that she had saved her tears to remain present and open to love. “I tried to fortify myself; I’ll cry later,” she said.

Jones and her late husband, whom she married in 2007, shared three children: Kayin, aged 16, and twins Clara and Uche, aged 13. She described sitting down for a deeply personal conversation with Guthrie, discussing how she has managed to carry on and find strength in recent months.

Guthrie expressed excitement about Jones’s return, stating, “We can’t wait to welcome Sheinelle home, right where she belongs, here in Studio 1A.”
