Carragher Slams Chelsea’s £40m New Signing Garnacho After Fulham Clash: “I Can’t STAND It!”
Jamie Carragher criticizes Chelsea’s new £40m signing Alejandro Garnacho after spotting behavior during Fulham game
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has expressed his disapproval of Alejandro Garnacho’s actions following his recent transfer to Chelsea for £40 million. Carragher highlighted a particular incident he observed during Chelsea’s match against Fulham at Stamford Bridge.
Garnacho, who joined Chelsea after his stint with Manchester United, was soon to make his debut but was unable to play in the game. Instead, he sat in the stands, and Carragher noticed that during the match, Garnacho was frequently distracted, looking at his phone rather than paying attention to the game.
During a discussion on Sky Sports about summer transfer signings, Carragher shared his frustration, saying, “I can’t stand it when players are on their phones during important matches.” He emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable for a professional athlete representing a top club. Carragher’s comments drew attention to perceived inattentiveness during a crucial Premier League fixture.
The transfer saw Garnacho become the most expensive academy graduate sale in Manchester United’s history, surpassing the £24.5 million received for David Beckham in 2003. The 21-year-old winger signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea after passing a medical, with United securing a 10% sell-on clause.
Garnacho has expressed excitement about his move to Chelsea, stating it was an “incredible moment” for him and his family, and he looks forward to making his debut against Brentford on September 13.

He added, “Joining a club as great as Chelsea is a special opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started. Watching Chelsea win the Club World Cup made me even more eager to be part of this team. I’m very happy to be here.”
