New Details in Cheerleader Laken Snelling’s Tragic Baby D:ea:th
Investigation Continues into the Death of a Baby Found in Campus Room
A university cheerleader remains at the center of a tragic and mysterious case after the remains of her newborn were discovered inside her dorm room, dumped in a trash bag. The exact cause of the infant’s death has not yet been determined, as preliminary autopsy results are inconclusive.
The 21-year-old student, known for her role on the campus stunt team, appeared in court this week while dressed in a bright red dress and makeup, supported by her father. She pleaded not guilty to multiple charges related to the infant’s death, including concealment of birth, evidence tampering, and abuse of a corpse.
Law enforcement officials emphasized the thoroughness of their investigation. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn stated, “We are conducting a detailed investigation to understand all the facts.” The infant was identified as a male, but how he died prior to being discarded is still unclear.
Supporters and former classmates have described Snelling differently. One former classmate, Sydney Kite, accused her of obsessive concern with appearance and alleged that she was a relentless bully. She claimed Snelling once attempted to run down a peer with her Jeep, escalating a pattern of aggressive behavior toward others.
Snelling was taken into custody over the infant’s death and, after posting bail of $100,000, has been ordered to stay under home detention, living with her parents. Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 26.
Investigation authorities continue to examine all aspects of the case as the community awaits further details about the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
