Trump Considers Revoking Rosie O’Donnell’s U.S. Citizenship

President Trump Weighs Revoking Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship

Former President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he is seriously considering stripping actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell of her U.S. citizenship—a move he has previously threatened but is legally impossible. Trump stated on Truth Social, “We are giving serious thought to taking away Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship. She is not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so!”

Trump has made similar comments in recent months, including in July, criticizing O’Donnell for allegedly being a threat to the country. O’Donnell responded humorously to the threats, comparing Trump to King Joffrey from “Game of Thrones” and asserting her independence.

In accordance with the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment, citizenship granted by birth in the U.S. cannot be revoked. O’Donnell, born in Commack, New York, is a U.S. citizen. She has Irish grandparents and recently moved to Ireland with her daughter, seeking Irish citizenship amid political tensions in the U.S. She has expressed that she will consider returning only when she believes true equality is restored in America.

During a 2015 Republican primary debate, Trump singled out O’Donnell when asked about derogatory remarks made about women, responding, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.” More recently, after a deadly shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, O’Donnell posted a video claiming the shooter was affiliated with MAGA and white supremacist groups. She later deleted the video and issued an apology, admitting she had made incorrect assumptions and did not do proper due diligence.
