Antony Rejected Champions League Giant Before Moving to Real Betis

Antony Chooses Betis Over Bayern Munich in Transfer Saga

Manchester United winger Antony has revealed he turned down an offer from Bayern Munich to secure his permanent transfer to Real Betis. The Brazilian international, after a challenging period at Old Trafford, moved to the La Liga club on a long-term deal, ending a tumultuous stint that saw him yield a £60 million loss for Manchester United.

Antony had enjoyed a successful loan spell last season at Betis, scoring nine goals in 26 appearances under manager Manuel Pellegrini. This influenced his decision to make the move permanent, which was finalized for a fee of £21.6 million, including a £19.6 million fixed sum and an additional £2 million in bonuses. Betis also secured a 50% sell-on clause for the player, with no severance payments made.

In an interview on Cadena Cope radio, Antony explained that despite Bayern Munich’s interest and their offer to double his wages, he prioritized honesty and respect. He stated, “I told Bayern on the final day that my deal with Betis was 95% complete and that I would honor my commitment. I am very happy here.”

He reflected on his time at United, saying, “What happened in Manchester was very difficult for me. I spent over 40 days in a hotel, but I always knew returning to Betis was my priority. Now I feel at peace and grateful to be here.”

Antony expressed his emotion during his Betis presentation, breaking down in tears as he shared his journey. He emphasized his love for Sevilla, calling it “more beautiful than Manchester,” and highlighted the strong affection from Betis fans, some of whom waited outside his house late into the night. “It was very hard, but I am finally in a city and club I love,” he said.

He concluded, “When I wear the Betis shirt, I will give everything for the fans, and I am excited about what we can achieve together.” His arrival has been met with enthusiasm from supporters, who welcomed him warmly in the streets of Seville.
