Man United Sign Senne Lammens for £21.7M & Ruben Amorim Gets New Goalkeeper

Manchester United Sign Senne Lammens for £21.7 Million as New Goalkeeper for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have officially announced the acquisition of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The transfer deal is valued at £21.7 million, with no sell-on clause included. Lammens, 23, has signed a five-year contract and will remain at Old Trafford until 2030.

The young goalkeeper has already played 64 matches for Royal Antwerp and was part of the team that won the Belgian Super Cup in 2023. He received his first call-up to the Belgium national team squad in March, highlighting his rising profile.

Lammens expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “I am extremely proud to join Manchester United. It’s a dream come true. The past few years have been an incredible journey, and now I look forward to starting this new chapter at such a prestigious club.” His arrival aims to bolster Ruben Amorim’s goalkeeping options following recent struggles from current first-choice keeper Andre Onana, whose form has been impacted by mistakes and injury issues.

United’s decision was influenced by their assessment of potential replacements, considering players like Emiliano Martinez but ultimately prioritizing Lammens due to his promising future. The club also wanted a younger profile after considering other options, including reluctance from Jadon Sancho to make a permanent move to Aston Villa.

The move was finalized quickly, with Lammens boarding a private plane from Antwerp to Manchester. His transfer marks the most expensive goalkeeper sale in Belgian Pro League history.

Manchester United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, praised Lammens, saying, “He is an excellent young goalkeeper with great potential. We’re pleased he chose to join us amid interest from other clubs.” With the addition of Lammens, United could have four senior goalkeepers in their squad this season, including veteran Tom Heaton. The club’s plans for potential transfers in January remain uncertain, especially with Onana expected to be away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

As competition for the goalkeeper position intensifies, United’s signing signals their focus on building a strong squad for the future.
