Bruce Willis’s Wife Responds to Critics Over Separate Homes
Emma Heming Responds to Criticism Over Bruce Willis’s Separate Living Arrangement
Emma Heming addressed recent public criticism after revealing that her husband, Bruce Willis, is now living in a separate home while battling frontotemporal dementia (FTD). She expressed her frustration with the noise and judgments from those unfamiliar with the situation.
“The opinions are so loud and noisy,” Heming, 47, shared in an Instagram video after discussing her husband’s condition publicly. “But if they don’t have the experience of this, they don’t get a say — and they certainly don’t get a vote.”
She added that caregivers often face harsh judgment and criticism from others, highlighting that “that is what caregivers are up against.” She emphasized the importance of sharing her experience to build a supportive community that understands the challenges she’s navigating daily. “Sharing openly may invite opinions, but it creates connection and validation,” she said.
Heming also shared that she and her daughters visit Willis frequently for meals and spend quality time together. Willis, who retired from acting in 2022 following an aphasia diagnosis, was diagnosed with FTD in 2023. The neurodegenerative disease affects language processing and can lead to behavioral and mobility issues.
In her interview with Diane Sawyer, Heming revealed that she made the difficult decision to move Willis to a nearby home, explaining, “He would want that for our daughters — a home tailored to their needs, not his.” She assured that Willis has a full-time care team and that she and the children visit often.
Reflecting on her journey, Heming shared her feelings about anniversaries amid her ongoing challenges, writing about the heaviness and grief she experiences but also emphasizing her unconditional love for Willis and her gratitude for the connection they share.
