Kristi Noem Demands Pritzker Scrap Far-Left Immigration Policies After Illinois Murder

Homeland Security Pursues Extradition of Accused Killer in Illinois

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced efforts to extradite Gabriel P. Calixto, a Mexican national charged with the murder of Emma Shafer in Springfield, Illinois, in July 2023. Calixto, who was in the country illegally at the time, was recently captured by Mexican authorities and is now facing charges of first-degree murder and domestic battery.

Noem stated, “The violent individual who evaded justice for two years after stabbing Emma Shafer has been arrested. We will cooperate fully with federal agencies to facilitate extradition.” She also thanked law enforcement partners for their role in bringing Calixto to justice.

The case has intensified debates over immigration and crime, with Noem criticizing Illinois’ sanctuary policies and calling for stricter enforcement. She emphasizes the need to prioritize law and order to ensure public safety.

In a separate context, discussions about deploying the National Guard to Chicago have met opposition from Democratic leaders, notably Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, who called such measures “un-American” in a recent press conference. Pritzker opposes federal troop deployment, contrasting with actions in Washington, D.C., where federal oversight and police patrols have been ramping up to curb violence, including arrests of gang members linked to groups like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua.

Increased federal intervention has garnered mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a necessary step for community safety, while others criticize it as overreach. Despite political disagreements, authorities emphasize ongoing efforts to reduce crime and improve security across urban areas.
