Ex-Gov. Pataki Reveals Shocking Secret: Curtis Sliwa Could Win NYC Mayor Race Thanks to the Dem Slate!

Former Governor Suggests Curtis Sliwa Has a Chance to Win NYC Mayoral Race

Ex-Governor George Pataki believes that Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa stands a real chance of winning if the Democratic field remains weak or is compromised by scandals. Pataki, emphasizing the Democrats’ current vulnerabilities, stated, “This is the weakest Democratic field ever.”

Sliwa, age 71 and founder of the Guardian Angels, is well-funded and capable of running a competitive campaign that could attract independents, disillusioned Democrats, and Republicans alike. Pataki highlighted Sliwa’s extensive familiarity with city neighborhoods, public transit, and the issues of homelessness and mental health, asserting, “Curtis knows the city better than anyone else.”

George Pataki believes Sliwa’s experience could make him a formidable candidate, especially given the current Democratic landscape.

Pataki is slated to host a campaign fundraiser for Sliwa on June 26 in Times Square, just after the Democratic primary. The event, supported by party leaders, aims to bolster Sliwa’s campaign efforts amid a crowded primary field. A GOP insider noted Sliwa’s aim to prevent incumbent Mayor Eric Adams—who pursued an independent bid—from consolidating Republican support.

Sliwa’s campaign is gaining momentum, with Pataki noting his deep city knowledge and credibility.

Pataki also highlighted Sliwa’s background with the Guardian Angels, which lends him credibility on issues of safety and social challenges like homelessness and mental health. He pointed out that in recent times, New York City’s best governance came under Republican mayors Rudy Giuliani and Mike Bloomberg.

He warned that if Democratic frontrunner Andrew Cuomo wins the primary, his past allegations and record could alienate voters. Conversely, a far-left Democrat like Zohran Mamdani as the nominee might push mainstream Democrats toward Sliwa due to ideological differences.

While incumbent Mayor Adams faces legal setbacks, Pataki recognizes that running as an independent severely limits electoral prospects.

Pataki, who became governor in 1994 by unseating Mario Cuomo, remains the last Republican to win statewide office in New York.
