Gerry Harrison, a respected former sports broadcaster, has passed away at the age of 89. He was widely recognized for his significant contributions to football commentary during a career spanning over three decades, notably covering matches for Anglia TV’s Match of the Week and ITV Sport.

Harrison is especially remembered for his narration of Ipswich Town’s successes under Sir Bobby Robson, including their FA Cup victory in 1978 and UEFA Cup triumph in 1981. Besides Ipswich, he also covered games for Norwich City, Cambridge United, Luton Town, Peterborough United, Northampton Town, Colchester United, and Southend United. His broadcasting portfolio extended beyond club football, as he reported on seven FIFA World Cups, beginning with the 1970 tournament in Mexico.

In addition to football, Harrison hosted a motorsport show called Wheels, helping bring more diverse sports coverage to terrestrial TV. His influence persists through his work with the production company IMG, contributing to the development of how the Premier League is covered.
