Rio Ferdinand Urges Manchester United Star to ‘Liven Up’ with Extra Training
Rio Ferdinand Calls Out Manchester United Player Needing a Boost and Suggests Extra Training
Manchester United has had a challenging start to the current Premier League season, with disappointing results in their first two matches. After losing 1-0 at home to Arsenal and drawing 1-1 with Fulham, the team finds itself in 16th place, already five points behind leaders Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool, who are undefeated.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has criticized one of the team’s current players, goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, for his performances, especially under high balls. Ferdinand noted that the whole backline appears uncertain during set pieces, not just the goalkeeper. He emphasized that Bayindir needs to improve his confidence and decision-making, particularly in dealing with contact situations.
Ferdinand suggested that the goalkeeper should undergo intensive training by practicing daily shots under the crossbar to get accustomed to contact and improve communication during games. He observed that Bayindir often does not communicate enough with defenders, leading to confusion during critical moments, such as during the Fulham match.
Despite making a key save in the recent game, Ferdinand believes Bayindir must work on his positioning and confidence to become a more reliable presence in goal. Meanwhile, Manchester United is nearing the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp in a £17million deal, aiming to bolster their options. Lammens is seen as a potential long-term successor to current starter Andre Onana, whose inconsistent performances last season have raised questions about his future.
The club is looking to add depth to its goalkeeper position, especially as Onana might miss part of the season due to his participation with Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations in December.
