Florida Nurse Pleads No Contest to Sexual Battery with Her 15-Year-Old Stepson
A former nurse in Florida, accused of having a sexual relationship with her 15-year-old stepson, has entered into a plea deal that will lead to a significant reduction of her potential prison sentence.
Alexis Von Yates, 35, was initially charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor after her husband, Frank, supposedly caught her in the act last year. Following the allegations, she lost her medical license due to the accusations.
Under the terms of her plea agreement, Von Yates will serve two years in prison, followed by two years of supervised community control, and 10 years on sex offender probation. She is also required to perform 200 hours of community service and pay fines and court fees. The court is expected to hand down a final sentence in September, with statements from the victim and his mother scheduled.
The case surfaced after police received an anonymous tip in July 2024, revealing that the victim’s father confronted the incident. According to court documents, the night of the alleged abuse involved the victim visiting his father’s home for the summer. Von Yates, after putting her children to bed, spent time with her stepson, smoking marijuana, playing video games, and watching movies.
At around 1 a.m., she allegedly initiated a sexual encounter, saying she was bored and expressing sexual frustration. The minor reportedly told investigators that she told him she was on her period and had not had sex in two weeks, then engaged in cuddling and kissed, before escalating to sexual contact. She allegedly expressed a desire for him to be 18, before removing her underwear and engaging in sexual acts.
The victim’s father reportedly returned home unexpectedly and discovered his wife and son naked on the couch. He shouted at them and accused her of being a child predator. The minor then fled the house, and she allegedly made comments suggesting he resembled her husband when he was younger.
Legal Proceedings and Aftermath
Following her arrest in November 2024, Von Yates’ nursing license was immediately suspended. The victim was scheduled to testify but has been spared from doing so due to the plea agreement, which prosecutors say prioritizes his mental health and well-being.
The victim, who was three years below the age of consent, is believed to be recovering from the trauma with ongoing mental health support.
