Blake Lively Faces Backlash Over New Role Amid Legal Dispute
Blake Lively has become the subject of online criticism after being announced as both star and producer of the upcoming romantic comedy, “The Survival List.” The announcement sparked controversy partly due to her ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni, with whom she previously collaborated on the 2024 film “It Ends With Us.” Some fans and observers have called for a boycott of her new project.
In her lawsuit filed in December 2024, Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and attempts to damage her reputation. Baldoni has denied the allegations, counter-suing her and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for extortion and defamation, although his case was dismissed by a judge. The court has scheduled their trial for March 2026.
Meanwhile, reactions to her casting were mixed. Some social media users mocked her, with one humorously suggesting she thought “The Survival List” was an IMDb list of her co-actors, while others referenced her legal feud, with comments like, “Good luck to the director dealing with her drama.”
Additional controversy surrounding her departure from her former best friend, Taylor Swift, also surfaced. Fans speculated the project would not include Swift’s music due to past disagreements, as Swift’s song “My Tears Ricochet” was used in “It Ends With Us.”

In terms of her role, Lively will play Annie, a highbrow reality TV producer assigned to a new show hosted by survival expert Chopper Lane. The plot involves the duo being stranded on an island after a shipwreck, where Lively’s character discovers Chopper is a fraud, forcing her to take charge of their survival and develop an unexpected chemistry.
Her return to screen marks her first project since the legal disputes began, with her speaking candidly about the pressures of her acting career and how she sometimes oversteps boundaries as an actress to find fulfillment in her work.
