Glasner and Parish Clash Over Guehi Sale; Eze Won’t Play Again – Crystal Palace Drama
Crystal Palace Faces Uncertain Future as Sale of Key Player Emerges
There appears to be internal disagreement within Crystal Palace over the potential sale of their central defender, Marc Guehi. Club boss Oliver Glasner insists Guehi must stay, calling him a vital part of the team, while chairman Steve Parish hints that financial needs may force a sale.
Guehi, an England international aged 25, has caught the attention of top-tier clubs, notably Liverpool, who are interested in acquiring him. Palace values the player at approximately £45 million, but Liverpool seeks to negotiate a lower price to avoid losing him for free next summer, as his current contract is nearing expiry.
While discussions continue, Glasner expressed a desire for Guehi to remain, even joking about stepping into his role if needed to bolster the defense. However, he acknowledged the club’s struggles at the back and admitted, “We are very late to find replacements,” highlighting the urgency of the transfer window.
Palace has made limited summer signings, including Borna Sosa and goalkeeper Walter Benitez, and now faces the potential departure of key player Eberechi Eze. Eze, linked with a move to Arsenal after Spurs reportedly hijacked Tottenham’s deal, missed a recent Europa Conference League match due to illness, casting doubt on his availability for the team again.
Glasner revealed that Eze likely won’t pull on Palace’s kit again, citing his illness and an apparent transfer away. The club seems to be consolidating for a challenging period, emphasizing the importance of strategic signings to secure their future.
Despite the rumors, Parish emphasized Eze’s contributions, stating, “He’s been fantastic for the club and we’re pleased he can fulfill his ambitions.” The club now looks to use any transfer proceeds to strengthen their squad for the upcoming challenges.
