Laura Loomer Faces Backlash Over Visa Controversy for Injured Palestinian Kids

Controversy Erupts Over US Visa Restrictions for Gaza Medical Travelers

Far-right activist and conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, known for her strong anti-Muslim stance, has influenced recent US policy decisions regarding Gaza. Following her social media allegations that Palestinians arriving in the US for medical care might pose security threats, the State Department announced the suspension of all visas for visitors from Gaza, including humanitarian medical visas for injured children.

Loomer posted videos of Palestinians arriving in the US through the nonprofit Heal Palestine, which facilitates medical treatment for injured children. She claimed, without evidence, that some children arriving in Texas were involved in jihadi chants and accused the State Department of approving these visas. She called for investigations into Heal Palestine and suggested the staff involved should be fired.

Despite the humanitarian efforts, the US has issued around 3,800 visas this year allowing medical treatment for Palestinians, with Heal Palestine evacuating 63 injured children for care in the US. The group’s founder, Steve Sosebee, expressed deep concern over the visa ban, emphasizing that it is a humanitarian matter, not a refugee resettlement program.

Critics, including the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, condemned the decision as “dangerous” and “inhumane,” arguing it denies vulnerable children access to necessary medical care. Meanwhile, Loomer celebrated the move, suggesting that all Gazans should be barred from US travel and claiming the US is not the world’s hospital.

Senior officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, indicated that the visa restrictions stemmed from congressional concerns about potential links between organizations bringing Palestinians to the US and terrorist groups. Loomer claims to have discussed these issues directly with Rubio.

Her influence remains significant, with her previous involvement in key political dismissals, highlighting her extensive sway in US political circles. Loomer advocates for ending Gaza visas entirely, stating they should be “terminated forever.”
