Fort Stewart Soldier Turns Hero, Seizes G:u:n from Shooter Quornelius Radford

Heroic Soldier Disarms Alleged Shooter at Fort Stewart

During a tense incident at Fort Stewart, Sergeant Aaron Turner’s training and quick thinking prevented further tragedy when he confronted an armed suspect. Turner, who knew the alleged shooter, initially attempted to de-escalate the situation and distract him from targeting leadership. However, when the threat escalated, Turner bravely seized the weapon to protect others.

“I took control by grabbing the barrel and the extended magazine,” Turner explained. “My training kicked in—it wasn’t about my safety anymore, it was about ensuring the safety of the soldiers and personnel around me.”

Before the altercation, Turner had engaged with the suspect, Sgt. Quornelius Radford, in an attempt to understand his motives. Radford, who had sent a cryptic message to his aunt hinting at an imminent action, told Turner, “Get out of here,” indicating he did not intend to harm soldiers but only leadership.

Radford injured five individuals before being subdued. Turner was among six soldiers awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for their role in stopping the shooting spree.

Authorities have not disclosed a specific motive for the attack. Radford had a history of personal struggles, including being mocked for a speech impediment and recently losing a loved one in a crash. He also faced a DUI arrest earlier this year.
