Selena Gomez Reveals How She and Taylor Swift Became Best Friends
Selena Gomez Shares Her Friendship and Bond with Taylor Swift
During a recent podcast appearance, Selena Gomez recounted how she and Taylor Swift developed their close friendship, which began over shared teenage relationships. Gomez explained that they bonded early on because they both dated members of the Jonas Brothers—she with Nick Jonas and Taylor with Joe Jonas. Gomez recalled, “I was about 15, she was around 18, and that’s when it was the crazy curly Taylor with all her bracelets. It was really sweet.” They credit their friendship’s longevity to supporting each other through various ups and downs over the years, with Gomez reflecting, “We just stuck around for all the ups and downs and are still best friends after 16 years.”
Gomez shared that Swift once played her a new song, which she immediately loved. “I remember vividly being in a hotel room, hearing it and thinking, ‘This is one of the most beautiful songs ever,’” Gomez said. Swift had told her she believed it would be her first single, and Gomez praised her as an “incredible… chameleon.”
Additionally, Gomez reflected on her teenage years, revealing she met her fiancé Benny Blanco at 16. She described him as “nice” and “funny,” but noted that the timing wasn’t right back then. The two went public with their relationship in 2023, and Blanco proposed in 2024. Gomez mentioned that their wedding plans are still in progress, with both focusing on their personal endeavors first.
