Son Heung-min’s Emotional Farewell to Tottenham After Record-Breaking LAFC Move

Son Heung-min Leaves Tottenham Hotspur for LAFC

The club announced the transfer of legendary forward Son Heung-min to LAFC on Wednesday evening, sharing an emotional farewell video featuring Son expressing his gratitude to Tottenham fans.

In the video, captioned “Dear Spurs fans… Sonny’s letter to you,” Son sits in front of a camera with somber music playing. He begins by saying, “Dear Spurs fans, you’re always in my pictures. Every celebration, I remember you. These are our moments.” This references his signature goal celebration, where he mimics taking a photo.

Throughout his decade at Tottenham, Son scored 173 goals in 454 appearances, becoming one of the club’s all-time greats. He shared memories of significant achievements, including winning the Europa League and scoring the club’s first goal at the new stadium in 2019. He also played a pivotal role in Tottenham’s run to their first Champions League final, scoring vital goals in key matches.

Son was awarded the FIFA Puskas Award in 2020 for a stunning solo effort and secured the Premier League Golden Boot in 2022 with 23 goals. Notably, he became the highest-scoring Asian player in Premier League history and led South Korea to Asian Games success in 2018, earning nine “Best Footballer in Asia” awards.

His crowning achievement was captaining Tottenham to Europa League victory in Bilbao in 2025, a moment that cements his legacy with the club.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy praised Son, calling him one of the greatest players in the club’s history and highlighting his impact both on and off the pitch. Son expressed his love for the club and fans, thanking them for their unwavering support.

Following his farewell, Son posted a reflective interview, recounting his early days in England, his nervousness, and the passion that drove him to succeed. He described his move to LAFC as a dream come true, highlighting his dedication and desire to give his all.

The transfer makes Son the most expensive player in Major League Soccer history, with a fee exceeding £20 million. At LAFC, he will reunite with former teammate Hugo Lloris. The side finished top of the Western Conference last season but fell short in the playoffs.
