Opta Supercomputer Predicts Next Season’s Premier League Standings—Bad News for Man United & Spurs
Liverpool Predicted to Defend Premier League Title
Following a busy summer transfer window, Liverpool is favored to successfully defend its Premier League crown. According to Opta’s supercomputer, the team has a 28.5% chance of winning the title for the third time and securing back-to-back championships under manager Arne Slot.
The club has invested heavily this summer, bringing in players such as Hugo Ekitike (£79m), Florian Wirtz (£116m), and Milos Kerkez (£40m). Other new signings include Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m) and Giorgi Mamardashvili (£29m). Liverpool remains interested in Alexander Isak, who has expressed a desire to leave Newcastle, though the transfer fee would be substantial.
Predicted to finish just behind Liverpool are Arsenal, with a 24.2% chance of capturing their first title since 2004. Manchester City, despite heavy investments this summer, is pegged at an 18.8% chance to reclaim the top spot.
Interestingly, all three clubs are considered the most likely to finish in first place. Liverpool has a 19.5% chance of finishing second and 14.2% third, while Arsenal has similar odds for second (18.7%) and third (14.7%). City is seen with a 17.3% chance of finishing second and 14.1% in third.
Qualifying for the Champions League is predicted for Liverpool (72.7%), Arsenal (68.5%), and City (62%), with these chances increasing if the league secures a fifth European qualification spot.
Relegation and Other Predictions
Burnley is forecasted to be the most at risk, with a 45.9% chance of relegation, followed by Leeds (48%) and Sunderland (66.4%), which is heavily favored to finish last at 34.1%. Former struggles from Tottenham and Manchester United are expected to persist, with United projected to finish 12th and Spurs 14th under new manager Thomas Frank.
Despite recent improvements, Manchester United has only a 10.7% chance of finishing in the top five, but a 20.5% chance of ending in the top seven. The team has an 11.1% probability of relegation.
