Thomas Partey Likely to Leave Arsenal After Contract Negotiations Stall

Thomas Partey is expected to depart from Arsenal at the end of June as discussions over a new contract have reached an impasse. According to reports, negotiations have come to a complete standstill, making it unlikely that the midfielder will extend his stay.

Partie joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 for £45 million. During his time at the club, he has made 167 appearances and scored nine goals. Despite facing injuries that kept him out for large parts of the 2023–24 season, he made a significant impact upon returning, helping lead Arsenal to the Champions League semi-finals. Though he played a key role, he has not yet secured major trophies with the Gunners, aside from participating in their 2023 Community Shield victory over Manchester City.

Arsenal is believed to be closing in on signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi for around £51 million as a possible replacement for Partey. The Ghanaian international has indicated that family considerations will heavily influence his decision about his future, emphasizing the importance of feeling at home and achieving personal goals.

In an interview, Partey stressed that his family’s happiness is a priority and that his own contentment and future objectives matter most. He added that, despite his loyalty to Arsenal, family concerns may steer his next move. Throughout last season, he was a consistent presence, playing in all but three Premier League matches, recording four goals and two assists. He expressed satisfaction with his recent form, describing it as some of his best regardless of injuries, and received praise from manager Mikel Arteta, who called his season “his best” in terms of consistency and availability.

As his contract nears its end, the future of the Ghana international remains uncertain, with family considerations expected to be a decisive factor in his decision-making process.
