Democrats’ Self-Own: Bragging About Inflation Shows They’ve Learned Nothing
Democrat’s Blunder Highlights Persistent Electoral Woes
Everyone makes mistakes, but some are more revealing than others. Recently, the Democratic Party’s social media team showcased a costly error that underscores ongoing challenges facing the party.
The official X (formerly Twitter) account posted a line chart claiming that grocery prices are higher now than in July 2024. The caption attributed this increase to “Trump’s America.” However, the chart itself barely showed a rise in prices over the period, instead indicating significant inflation mostly between 2021 and 2024—a period largely associated with President Biden’s tenure.
The blunder wasn’t just in its substance but also symbolized the Democrats’ failure to confront the real reasons behind their declining popularity. A recent Wall Street Journal poll revealed that only 33% of Americans have a favorable view of the party, with 63% holding unfavorable opinions—all while both Trump and the GOP remain less trusted on key issues like the economy and immigration.
Much of the Democratic discourse hinges on comforting myths rather than addressing tangible problems such as inflation, foreign policy failures, border security neglect, and social policies. Despite increasing dissatisfaction, the party seems unwilling to face these realities.
Plans for an internal review aim to sidestep accountability for decision-making during Biden-Harris’s presidency, focusing instead on outside groups’ efforts. Critics argue that the core issue is not presentation but the actual policies and results themselves.
Ultimately, the mistake on social media and the poll results serve as glaring reminders: effective politics hinges on substance, not slogans or illusions.
