Rubio Praises Vance as a Future 2028 Presidential Nominee

Rubio Praises Vance and Remarks on GOP 2028 Presidential Race

Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed support for Vice President JD Vance, suggesting he would be an excellent presidential candidate if he chooses to run. Rubio highlighted their close friendship and lauded Vance’s performance as Vice President, indicating he hopes Vance decides to enter the 2028 race.

When asked about his own political future, Rubio clarified that his current role restricts political involvement, but he did not completely rule out a presidential run, mentioning he plans to stay on as Secretary of State through January 2028 if circumstances allow.

Rubio has been a longtime political figure and was considered a potential vice-presidential pick last year, but Trump ultimately selected Vance. Since then, Rubio has been assigned multiple responsibilities within the administration, including leading USAID, serving as a national security adviser, and acting as an archivist.

Vance joked about Rubio’s busy schedule, suggesting he could take on more roles, even humorously referencing a job opening for a devout Catholic after Pope Francis’s death.

The upcoming presidential primary marks the first since 2016 with both major parties having wide-open contests, especially for Republicans, as President Trump will not be the nominee this time. Vance is widely regarded as a frontrunner for the GOP nomination in 2028.

Rubio’s Reflections on Trump and Political Life

Rubio recounted his past rivalry with Trump during the 2016 campaign, where Trump called him “Little Marco” and they had a tense relationship. However, Rubio emphasized that once they faced each other in the primaries, they ended their feud and became political allies.

He praised Trump’s cutting instincts and contrasted his swift decision-making with the slower pace of the Senate, noting that getting things accomplished in the executive branch is both rewarding and motivating.
