Tiger Woods Still Creates Memorable Moments Despite Missing The Open

Tiger Woods’ Embarrassing Moment at The Open After Crowd Cheered Three Words

Although Tiger Woods is not competing at this year’s Open Championship, he remains a prominent figure in the sport and experiences memorable moments during major tournaments. Fans showed their support as Woods returned to a major field, despite ongoing injuries.

Woods, who is recovering from an Achilles injury sustained in March, was absent from the Open this year. The last PGA Tournament he played was the previous year’s Open at Royal Troon, with limited appearances due to fitness issues. Nonetheless, at his last appearance, the crowd enthusiastically cheered him on, chanting “prove Monty wrong” during his first tee shot. This was in reference to comments made by golf legend Colin Montgomerie, who suggested Woods’ best days might be behind him.

Montgomerie, now 62, expressed his opinion that Woods’ passion and charisma had diminished and questioned whether he still enjoyed competing, citing a lack of enthusiasm at recent events. He even implied that Woods might be past his prime, saying, “I hope people remember Tiger as he was, not how he is now,” adding that Woods’s recent performances seemed detached.

Woods responded sharply, reminding Montgomerie of his achievements: “As a past champion, I am exempt until I turn 60. He isn’t. So, he doesn’t have that privilege to decide when to stop. That’s my decision, not his,” Woods stated at a pre-tournament press conference.

Despite the support, Woods didn’t perform well and missed the cut after rounds of 79 and 77. This marked his third straight missed cut at a major that season and represents his last appearance in a PGA-sanctioned event to date.
