Scottie Scheffler Faces First Obstacle in His Road to The Open Title

Scottie Scheffler Faces Unexpected Distraction During The Open

The world number one golfer encountered a surprising obstacle on day one of the tournament.

Scottie Scheffler

While preparing for a shot at this year’s Open Championship, Scottie Scheffler was unexpectedly interrupted by a fan’s fart as he followed through on his swing during the 17th hole. The incident, captured by nearby microphones, prompted laughter from commentators. Broadcaster Andrew Cotter commented, “There was so much to say about that shot, the sound off the clubface… extraordinary.”

Despite the distraction, Scheffler’s shot nearly sank into the hole, finishing just outside the cup. His ball was helped along by a slight breeze, leading one commentator to remark, “Just a little wind from behind just helped it ease down the green.”

On the day, Scheffler played confidently, ending his round at three under par. The weather conditions were challenging, with rain and wind testing his focus, and he also joked about hurdles from the crowd. Reflecting on his performance, Scheffler said, “It was challenging to get the ball on the fairway, especially in the middle of a round when it’s raining sideways. The greens are more consistent than last week, making putting a bit easier.”

He added, “Sometimes, no matter how well you read putts, they don’t drop. Last week, even good putts didn’t go in, but I kept my confidence. Playing in rain for 13 holes was tough, but you learn to expect the unpredictable here.”
