Bryan Kohberger Murdered Kaylee Goncalves Over a Plan Mistake, Expert Says

Bryan Kohberger Allegedly Disfigured Kaylee Goncalves After She Disrupted His Plans, Expert Claims

According to a retired FBI agent, Bryan Kohberger attacked Kaylee Goncalves in an attempt to carry out a sexual assault that was interrupted by her presence. The agent suggests Kohberger’s initial goal was to target Maddie Mogen, another victim in the home, but the plan was thwarted.

Former FBI professional Jennifer Coffindaffer, who has studied the case extensively, explained that Kohberger entered the residence intending to forcibly rape Mogen in her bedroom. However, he was surprised to find Mogen sleeping with Goncalves, one of her housemates, which enraged him and prevented him from fulfilling his original intent.

Investigators believe Kohberger’s primary target was Mogen, but upon seeing Goncalves with her, his frustration turned violent. As a result, Kohberger assaulted Goncalves viciously, stabbing her more than 20 times in the face, leaving her unrecognizable, and also strangling her, based on autopsy reports.

The attack extended beyond Goncalves. Kohberger allegedly sliced open Mogen’s chest before killing Xana Kernodle and her boyfriend, Ethan Chapin. Coffindaffer emphasizes that Goncalves’ interference “ruined his plans,” which led to her face being severely disfigured as a result of his rage.

Images from the case depict the scene, highlighting the severity of the assault and the brutality of the crimes.
