Jane’s Addiction Stars Sue Perry Farrell Over Band Dispute

Members of Jane’s Addiction Sue Lead Singer Perry Farrell for $10 Million and Face Counterclaims

Three band members—guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins—filed a lawsuit against Perry Farrell, the band’s frontman, following a 2024 onstage incident that resulted in the band’s breakup.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, accuses Farrell of assault and battery and claims he intentionally caused emotional distress. The band members are seeking at least $10 million in damages, citing the disruptions caused by the altercation and related misconduct.

In response, Farrell’s legal team labeled the lawsuit as a conspiracy to “bully” the singer and accused his former bandmates of trying to control the narrative. Farrell’s attorney stated that Navarro, Avery, and Perkins acted unjustly, especially after the incident, which led Farrell to cancel the rest of the tour and put plans for a band revival on hold.

Farrell countersued, accusing Navarro and Avery of initiating violence, and claimed that the other members of Jane’s Addiction engaged in harassment and bullying to undermine him during performances. He alleged that Navarro and Avery escalated a verbal altercation into physical violence in Boston, prompting the band’s cessation of activities. The lawsuit also suggests that Farrell’s mental health struggles have contributed to ongoing issues within the band.

The dispute escalated when Farrell publicly apologized for his behavior during the Boston show after footage showed him appearing to throw a punch at Navarro, which caused the band to end their performance prematurely. The incident led to the cancellation of the remaining tour dates and the band’s dissolution.

Both sides claim the other has fabricated narratives about the events, with Farrell dismissing his critics and asserting that the band’s behavior has harmed his reputation and mental well-being. The legal battle also affects the band’s plans for a new album, which are now stalled due to the ongoing conflict.

Through their lawsuits, the musicians seek compensation for lost profits, canceled shows, and damages related to their intellectual property, while Farrell requests damages for physical injury, emotional distress, and harm to his reputation.
