Long Island Man Dies After Metal Chain Gets Sucked Into MRI Machine

Fatal Incident Occurs When Man Gets Sucked into MRI Machine on Long Island

A 61-year-old man has died after being pulled into an MRI scanner while wearing a metal neck chain at a facility in Westbury, Long Island. The accident happened on Wednesday at Nassau County Open MRI when the metal chain caused the man to become entrapped in the machine’s magnetic field.

Authorities reported that the individual was not a patient but was there to accompany someone undergoing an imaging procedure. Witnesses say he disobeyed instructions to stay out of the MRI room, allegedly because his relative was in pain. Despite multiple warnings, he entered the restricted area.

The man immediately experienced a severe medical crisis upon contact with the MRI, which resulted in his death the following day at North Shore University Hospital. Details about the cause of death have not been officially released, but a hospital doctor speculated that strangulation or cervical injuries could have occurred due to the metal chain around his neck.
