Diogo Jota Honored Posthumously by Wolves Hall of Fame Following Tragic Death
Wolves have announced that Diogo Jota will be inducted into their Hall of Fame in recognition of his impressive contributions to the club, following his untimely death in a car accident earlier this month at age 28.
The Portuguese international, who played 131 games and scored 44 goals for Wolves over three years after initially joining on loan from FC Porto in 2017, was part of the team that earned promotion and later won the Premier League with Liverpool last season. He transferred to Liverpool in 2020 for £41 million after impressing under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
The club confirmed the news through an official statement, highlighting Jota’s remarkable achievements and the profound impact of his passing on the football community:
“Diogo Jota has been inducted into the Wolves Hall of Fame, a tribute honoring his exceptional contributions and the sadness of losing such a talented player and person.”
Wolves’ Hall of Fame, managed independently by a committee led by club legend John Richards, made the decision swiftly to honor Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who also died alongside him in the crash in northern Spain on July 3.
Richards expressed his condolences, noting Jota’s significance during Wolves’ promotion season and his scoring record, emphasizing the emotional impact of his loss across the football world.
Wolves have announced plans to honor Jota and his brother at upcoming fixtures, including a permanent memorial and tributes during the final home friendly and the first Premier League game of the season. Fans have already left flowers and mementos to pay their respects.
