Kuminga Ejected After Contact with Official in Preseason Game vs. Trail Blazers

Jonathan Kuminga Ejected in Preseason Game

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga was ejected in the final moments of the second quarter during a preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The incident occurred when Kuminga made contact with an official while protesting a foul call, resulting in an immediate technical foul and subsequent ejection from the game.

Attempting a layup just before the buzzer at the Moda Center, Kuminga believed he drew contact and missed the shot. As play moved to the other end, Kuminga confronted the officials and made contact, which led to the ejection.

At the time of his departure, Kuminga had scored 7 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and recorded 4 assists in 18 minutes on the court. This was his third preseason appearance, coming shortly after he signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract extension to stay with the Warriors—settling a lengthy offseason contract dispute. The new deal grants Kuminga the option to be traded starting in January, a move considered likely by some reports.

Drafted seventh overall in 2021, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and shot 30.5% from three-point range last season. His previous season was marred by an ankle injury in January, but he managed to return for the postseason.

The Trail Blazers led at halftime, 61-56, after finishing the first half strongly. They finished last season with a 36-46 record and missed the playoffs. Their regular season opens on October 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Warriors are set to begin their regular season on October 21 with a game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
