Rashford Can Still Be a Top Star, Says Tuchel Ahead of Latvia Clash

Thomas Tuchel believes Marcus Rashford can still become one of the best players globally, but warns him to realize his potential

Thomas Tuchel has emphasized to Marcus Rashford that he still has the capacity to be among the world’s top players. The England striker, currently on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United, is expected to start for England against Latvia in crucial World Cup qualifying match at Riga’s Daugava Stadium.

Since Tuchel’s arrival as England’s coach, Rashford has rejoined the national team following a loan spell at Aston Villa last season and has been performing well at Barcelona this campaign, scoring three goals and providing five assists in ten matches.

Tuchel highlighted Rashford’s exceptional talent, citing his pace, strength, and versatility in finishing with both feet and headers. However, he noted that the player’s recent numbers do not fully reflect his true potential. The manager encouraged Rashford to consistently deliver his best in both club and international fixtures, warning that potential alone is insufficient without sustained effort.

He stated, “The limit for him is very high—possibly higher than for others. He can be one of the best because of his quality in training. But he must demonstrate that regularly, which is the challenge for him.”

At 27, Rashford is still young enough to make strategic decisions to maximize his career. Tuchel also stressed that there are no limits to Rashford’s capabilities, but the player needs to align his performance with his potential, or he might regret missed opportunities later in life.

“He is still young enough to choose the right path. Otherwise, in ten years, he might look back with regret about what he could have achieved,” Tuchel concluded.
