Multiple Arrests Made in Mississippi Homecoming Shooting Spree

Four individuals have been taken into custody following a deadly shooting at a Mississippi homecoming football game, which resulted in six deaths and more than a dozen injuries.

Those arrested include Teviyon L. Powell, 29; William Bryant, 29; and Morgan Lattimore, 25, who face charges of capital murder. Latoya A. Powell, 44, has been charged with attempted murder. Authorities have expressed that ongoing investigations may lead to additional arrests.

Efforts to locate the suspects continue, with the FBI releasing surveillance images of a female and three males identified as “unknown suspects.” Authorities have yet to specify a definitive motive but believe the violence was sparked by a dispute among several individuals.

Initially, the shooting happened around midnight on Main Street in Leland. The victims, four of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, include Oreshama Johnson, 41; Calvin Plant, 19; Shelbyona Powell, 25; and Kaslyn Johnson, 18.

Two other victims, Amos Brantley, 18, and JaMichael Jones, 34, later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. An additional ten individuals received treatment, though their identities have not been revealed.

Many of those impacted were recent graduates returning for an annual reunion during the homecoming event. Witness Jennifer Buckner recounted that the shooting began with a few quick shots, but chaos erupted as automatic gunfire persisted for about ten minutes, causing panic among attendees.

Additionally, two people, including a pregnant woman, were found dead on the campus of Heidelberg High School on the same evening. Authorities have not confirmed whether the incidents are related or if the gunfire occurred near the stadium.

In connection with the Heidelberg shooting, an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder and possession of a firearm on school grounds.

Ongoing investigations continue as authorities work to piece together the events of this tragic day.
