House Republicans Block the Government from Reopening

Speaker Mike Johnson has been rallying various excuses to justify the government shutdown initiated by Republicans. He falsely claims that Democrats are seeking to provide healthcare to illegal immigrants, which is not true. Johnson also asserts that Democrats are responsible for the shutdown, despite Republicans controlling the entire federal government.

Johnson has recently shut down the House floor, preventing members from working until Senate Democrats agree to pass his continuing resolution. This move threatens to eliminate health coverage for many Americans and causes insurance premiums to surge. When questioned about Obamacare, Johnson delivered a lengthy response revealing Republican intentions to undermine the Affordable Care Act.

He stated:

“Can we completely repeal and replace Obamacare? Many of us are skeptical because of how deeply rooted it is. I believe it was intentionally designed to self-destruct. The architects envisioned a future where it would collapse, paving the way for a single-payer system—full government control of healthcare, which is a frightening prospect.”
