Father Running for Sheriff After Killing Alleged Rapist of His Daughter

A man who claims to have acted to protect his daughter by killing her alleged rapist is seeking to become sheriff of Lonoke County, Arkansas. He argues that the justice system failed him by charging him with murder.

Aaron Spencer reportedly shot Michael Fosler, aged 67, after discovering him in a vehicle with Spencer’s daughter. Fosler had previously been charged with grooming and abusing her, according to court documents. Spencer was charged with second-degree murder following the incident.

In a campaign launch video posted on Facebook, Spencer stated, “I’m the father who took action after the system let us down.” He described his run for sheriff as an effort to restore community trust in law enforcement. “This isn’t about me; it’s about every parent, neighbor, and family deserving safety and support,” he added.

According to court records, Spencer found Fosler driving away with his daughter. After confirming Fosler’s criminal history, Spencer forced him off the road and fired shots, claiming he acted to protect his child.

Spencer’s wife, Heather, has started an online fundraiser, stating their underage daughter was targeted by Fosler’s boyfriend, who had been charged with multiple sexual offenses against her. Heather described Fosler as a “monster” and criticized the legal process for releasing him on bail, despite prior charges related to the abuse.

Spencer faces court proceedings scheduled for December 16, with the trial set for January 26, 2026. His campaign has received strong support, with messages praising his actions and commitment to protecting families.
