Roy Keane’s Daughter Talks Lupus Diagnosis & Business Inspiration

Caragh Keane Opens Up About Lupus Diagnosis and Her Business Venture

Caragh Keane, daughter of football legend Roy Keane, has shared her journey of discovering she has lupus, which left her bed-bound for three months before she launched a health-focused cereal brand called Superkeen. Her product, designed to promote gut health, is now available in major supermarkets nationally.

Reflecting on her health struggles, Caragh explained that about five years ago, she began experiencing symptoms such as painful joints, hair loss, and skin blisters. Initially, she attributed these issues to stress from her teaching career and was surprised when her condition worsened, leading to her being unable to move and confined to bed.

Her diagnosis of lupus—a condition where the immune system attacks healthy tissues—came as a shock, as she had never heard of the disease before. She emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle in managing the illness, including a proper diet, stress management, and sleep. “Managing stress levels is crucial for me, as I tend to overthink and get stressed easily,” she said.

Caragh highlighted that her approach involves eating whole, unprocessed foods and balancing her lifestyle, which is complemented by medications prescribed for lupus. She revealed her desire to avoid extensive use of steroids and aggressive medications, seeking more natural ways to cope with her condition.

Her family has been greatly supportive, especially her father Roy, who has a good sense of humor and often injects positivity into her life. Caragh recalls her father supporting her initial business idea, leading to the creation of Superkeen. Roy recalled their first business meeting where she asked for financial support, leading to a collaborative effort to launch the brand.

Caragh admires her father’s wit and wisdom, especially during difficult times. She considers him a unique individual and is grateful for his advice and support through her health journey and entrepreneurial pursuits.
