Liverpool Star Withdraws from International Duty Ahead of Man United Clash

Injury setback for Liverpool ahead of key match with Manchester United

Liverpool has received concerning news as a key first-team player had to withdraw from international duty due to injury on Saturday. This comes amid a series of recent defeats for the Reds leading into the October international break.

The club experienced three consecutive setbacks prior to the break, losing matches in the Premier League to Crystal Palace and Chelsea, as well as a defeat in the Champions League against Galatasaray. Their loss at Stamford Bridge last Saturday moved them down to second place in the Premier League standings, behind Arsenal, raising questions about their title prospects despite significant summer investments in players like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

The injury situation worsened as Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool’s starting centre-back, was forced to withdraw from France’s World Cup qualifier against Iceland on Monday evening. Previously, he had sustained a thigh injury during Liverpool’s match against Chelsea but still joined the French squad and participated in light training, sitting on the bench during France’s 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan.

Konate’s withdrawal was confirmed after the French defender left France’s training camp to return to Liverpool to recover. Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, indicated concern over the injury, noting that Konate had limped during training and had felt discomfort in his quad, which prompted his early substitution during previous match action. The club is hopeful he will recover in time for next Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United, a fixture that marks the start of a demanding period with upcoming games in the Champions League and against Brentford.
