Selena Gomez Expresses Desire to Become a Mother

Selena Gomez has publicly shared her hope of starting a family someday. In celebration of the final episode of the “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” series, she posted a heartfelt message on her Instagram Story, showing her admiration for her former character, Alex Russo, who is depicted as a mother in the show. Gomez wrote, “Alex Russo is a mommy. Hopefully one day that’ll be me.”

Gomez, now 33, has appeared in brief cameos on the Disney+ series, which centers around a new generation of young wizards. The season finale revealed her character, Billie, to be Alex’s daughter. In a heroic act, Gomez’s character sacrifices herself, falling into a portal to save her loved ones.

Her post comes shortly after her recent marriage to music producer Benny Blanco, which took place in an intimate California ceremony less than two weeks prior. Gomez and Blanco have openly discussed their desire for children; in a podcast interview, Gomez expressed her love for making children laugh and her excitement about the possibility of motherhood. Blanco, who officially went public with Gomez in December 2023, reiterated his wish to become a dad during a June interview, sharing his love for being an uncle and his hope to start a family.

Despite her hopes, Gomez has been open about her health challenges. She disclosed in 2024 that she cannot carry children due to lupus, a condition she battles. However, she remains optimistic about other options such as surrogacy or adoption. Gomez told Vanity Fair in October 2024, “It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different.”
