David Del Rio Fired from ‘Matlock’ Over Assault Allegation
Actor David Del Rio Out of “Matlock” Amid Sexual Assault Allegation
David Del Rio has been removed from the cast of the current season of “Matlock” following serious allegations of sexual assault made by co-star Leah Lewis. The network confirmed his departure but did not provide additional details.
According to reports, the decision came after an internal investigation conducted by the studio. The incident involving Del Rio, 38, and Lewis reportedly occurred on Paramount property on September 26.
Del Rio’s character, Billy Martinez, will be written out of future episodes. He will, however, appear in previously filmed scenes. The show is on a filming break until November, after completing production on the first half of the season.
Lewis, who plays Sarah Franklin, responded publicly to the controversy via social media, stating she is “moving forward” with her life and emphasizing resilience. She shared a photo with her mother, expressing gratitude for support and care, and highlighted the importance of strength during challenging times.
Soon after the news broke, Del Rio was escorted off the studio lot, with “Matlock” executive producer Eric Christian Olsen among those involved in his removal. Reactions from representatives of Kathy Bates and Lewis remained unavailable for comment.
The cast of “Matlock,” including Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, Skye P. Marshall, and Jason Ritter, continues to work as the show prepares for its second season, scheduled to premiere on October 12.
