Former NBA Star Paul Pierce Arrested on DUI Suspicion in Los Angeles

Basketball legend Paul Pierce was taken into custody under suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Los Angeles on Tuesday, according to reports from local authorities. The incident occurred late at night when officers responded to a multi-vehicle accident on the northbound lanes of the 101 freeway. During the investigation, they observed a Range Rover stopped in a lane, with Pierce reportedly asleep at the wheel.

Officers detected signs of impairment and initiated a DUI investigation, leading to Pierce’s arrest. His case is now under review by the Los Angeles City Attorney.

Born in Oakland and raised in Inglewood, California, Pierce became a high school basketball star, participating in the 1995 McDonald’s All-American Game. He played college basketball at Kansas before being drafted No. 10 overall by the Boston Celtics in 1998. Pierce had a celebrated 15-year career with the Celtics, guiding them to an NBA championship and becoming one of the franchise’s most iconic players.

Later in his career, he also played for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and finished his playing days with the Los Angeles Clippers. After retiring, Pierce worked as an NBA analyst for ESPN from 2017 to 2021, though he was released following a controversial live-streamed video of a party. In 2024, he began working with Fox Sports 1. Recently, Pierce garnered headlines for walking 20 miles to work after a bold prediction about the Boston Celtics went wrong.
