Man United Unaware of Buyout Interest, But Glazers Could Be in Secret Talks

Man United Deny Knowledge of Any Sale Interest Despite Rumors of Secret Negotiations

Sources close to Manchester United have stated that there is no awareness of any ongoing discussions regarding the sale of the club, despite recent speculation suggesting that the team could be up for purchase again.

Saudi sports executive Turki Al-Sheikh stirred interest by announcing on Wednesday night that United was in the advanced stages of a deal to sell to a new investor. He wrote on social media: “The best news I heard today is that Manchester United is now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor – I hope he’s better than the previous owners.”

This statement surprised many at Old Trafford, with insiders asserting they have no knowledge of such negotiations or where Al-Sheikh’s information originated. Al-Sheikh is known for overseeing major sporting events in Saudi Arabia and is reportedly in talks with United to facilitate a friendly match during Riyadh Season.

Under the terms of Jim Ratcliffe’s initial minority stake acquisition—where he purchased 27.7% of United for £1.3 billion—the law allows him to influence the sale process within 18 months. The clause, which took effect on August 13, could potentially enable him to block or facilitate a sale involving the Glazers.

Speculation persists about potential bids, especially given Al-Sheikh’s comments, but there is no concrete evidence that the club is actively being sold. The possibility remains that the Glazer family might be engaging in private talks with buyers without the involvement or knowledge of Ratcliffe or the current club officials.

Meanwhile, United are considering participation in the Riyadh Season Cup, potentially against Al-Nassr or Al-Hilal, with the event valued at over £10 million, or arranging a special match with a Saudi club or SPL All-Stars team.
