Andra Day sues ex-manager for theft and eviction
Andra Day Faces Financial Hardship Amid Lawsuit Against Former Manager
Andra Day, the acclaimed singer and actress, claims she is facing financial difficulties, including the threat of eviction, due to her former manager’s alleged greed and misconduct. According to her lawsuit, Day has been left unable to make even basic credit card payments after her former manager, Jeff Evans, was reportedly caught stealing from her.
The legal battle began when Evans filed a lawsuit against Day, claiming she breached their contract and owes him nearly one million dollars. In her countersuit, Day describes Evans as a “faithless fiduciary” who defrauded her out of significant funds.
Her lawsuit alleges that Evans siphoned off large sums—so much so that Day, a quadruple platinum artist and Golden Globe winner, was unable to afford her rent or tour expenses. The lawsuit states she is short on her credit card minimum payments and lacks sufficient funds to carry on her music career.
Day previously signed with Evans’ agency, which was introduced through Stevie Wonder’s wife, and was with him until she terminated their relationship in March. Evans’ suit claims she owes over $850,000 in unpaid earnings from her role in “The Deliverance” and a share of her publishing advances. Meanwhile, her legal team contends that Evans and his company have admitted to failing to pay her at least $575,486, with claims that the amount owed is much higher.
Day is renowned for her empowering song “Rise Up” and won acclaim for her portrayal of Billie Holiday, earning both a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. She also starred alongside Glenn Close in the Netflix thriller “The Deliverance.”
