Arizona Senators Confront Mike Johnson Over Adelita Grijalva Swearing-In Delay

Delay in Swearing-In of Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva Sparks Controversy

There is widespread suspicion that the delay in swearing-in Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva is politically motivated. Grijalva has been waiting longer than most for her official accreditation, fueling allegations that her inauguration is being obstructed for strategic reasons.

Specifically, Democratic observers suggest that her hold-up is connected to the White House’s displeasure over a discharge petition related to the Epstein files in the House. Experts believe that House Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision to delay her swearing-in might be a deliberate move to influence this issue.

In an effort to address the situation, Senators Mark Kelly and Reuben Gallego directly questioned Speaker Johnson during a press briefing. Gallego asked why Grijalva hadn’t been sworn in, to which Johnson replied that her seat was being held hostage until Senate Democrats support his proposed Continuing Resolution (CR) to reopen the government.

Despite Johnson’s plans to adapt House rules to prevent similar delays—by changing the number of signatures needed on a discharge petition—there remains persistent speculation that the delay is tied to the sensitive Epstein files issue.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions over the legislative process and political maneuvering in Congress, with some viewing the hold-up as a strategic move related to broader investigations and internal procedural conflicts.
